Bells & Whistles. Archaeological evidence of bells dates back to more than 5000 years, from the 3rd millennium BC. These very early bells were made of pottery and were later replaced by metal bells. Whistles have been used for various reasons since prehistoric times, made from bone, wood, clay and metal and are a reasonably common metal detecting find.
